Rufus Porter Oils On Slate
Rufus Porter was an itinerant
artist of murals, landscapes and portraits in the 1800's. He traveled throughout New England and his landscape murals earned
him wide recognition. His scenes are all natural settings painted in subdued hues with oversized trees. I have long
admired the serenity of his work along with his subdued coloring.
Slates in the Rufus Porter style vary in coloring
from scenes depicting waterways (in blues), summers ( in rust tones), and spring scenes (in beige-green tones).
